You also need to reread your first draft with a fresh eye, as though you were reading it for the first time. Once you feel you have covered what you want to cover, read through again to make sure that the organization and development are logical. If you refer to an important historical event, you must make a point or comment about it. This will stop your essay from becoming a simple narrative and it shows you are trying to analyse events rather than just describe them. Start a new paragraph for each new important point and any linked points that relate to the question. You may include quotations from other historians and refer to primary sources to support a particular point. A particular essay can talk about oneâs childhood and another one can be to argue a certain point. There is no limit on what can be talked about in an essay. However, the one thing that would define it is its revolution around a particular theme. Sum up the main points and briefly restate your argument. Ask your professor or TA to recommend articles or authors on the topic. This is best when you have a wider variety or personal choice on the topic. List questions or clarifications you might have, and ask them ahead of time. When you have such limited number of pages, you need space to develop your argument. However, donât just ramble on and on, repeating the same arguments in different ways to fill-up space. You shouldnât take the risk of being caught of plagiarism and you should give other academics due credit for their work. Identify some of the future areas for research that your paper opens up. One major objective of an essay is to present all relevant points before making any thoughts on the result of the discussion/argument. The framework of any essay work is not as formalized as that of a report. Like reviews, however, you must still offer a disagreement or controversial point of view that is clearly sustained. The most important thing to remember after selecting your preferred citation style is that in-text citation must match the work cited list. Citation style also has to be consistent throughout the paper (i.e. you cannot go from APA to MLA). If you use sourcing engines to make your references, always double check their accuracy. If you are found guilty of plagiarism you can fail the assignment or the class, or be suspended or expelled from university. It could even affect your chances of getting into a grad program, as it remains on your record, and you are required to give an explanation as to what happened . Plan the structure of the essay by numbering each of your ideas in order of importance. At this stage you may wish to leave some of them out or develop others by breaking them into sub points. When the assignment says between 6-8 pages, it is better to do 8 than 6. Read what you have written, make margin notes on the purpose of each paragraph, and then take these notes and arrange and rearrange as needed. The Four Major Types Of Essays
The Four Major Types Of Essays Although all of those arguments have merit, our own thinking on the subject is both more old-fashioned and more radical. We think the essay form is still the best way for students to think hard on the page -- but we are not fans of formulae. Instead, weâre in favor of inquiry-based learning, evidence-rich analysis and process work. If you want to write better essays, you will need to understand the criteria teachers use to score them. Donât start with the introduction. The introduction is where some students struggle the most, so to avoid getting bogged down, create the introduction later. This will allow you to fully form your thoughts and ideas and come back and integrate the main ideas into your introduction. The most important step in writing an essay or research paper is to fully comprehend the essay question. An essay can be wonderfully articulated and thought out, but will still result in a poor grade if it doesnât adequately answer the prompt provided. This is your chance to tie all of your main points together and go out with a bang. A good conclusion will address the main arguments of each body paragraph in a succinct way and thoroughly prove your thesis statement. Examples of scholarly sources include academic journals, peer-reviewed articles, textbooks, books by accredited authors, and NPR articles. Examples of unacceptable scholarly sources are magazine articles, open forum submissions, encyclopedia entries, and unverified online sources. If youâre looking for credible sources to use within your essay, check out Google Scholar. Good paragraphs also contain thorough explanations, some analysis and evidence, and perhaps a quotation or two. Every essay must have an introduction, a body of several paragraphs and a conclusion. Your paragraphs should be well organised and follow a logical sequence. This page contains some general advice on writing a successful history essay. Seek feedback and advice from a good writer or someone you trust . A history essay is only likely to succeed if it is appropriately referenced. An essay is a piece of sustained writing in response to a question, topic or issue. In any case, the essay ends somewhere different from where it began. The reader has learned something, precisely because the author has. Something interesting has, ideally, taken place. In sum, the student essay falls into the same genre as the essays we ourselves write. Try to avoid generalisation and look out for generalised statements when proofreading. An obvious tip for a history essay is to write in the past tense. Watch out for mixed tenses when proofreading your work. Your essay should support its information, ideas and arguments with citations or references to reliable sources. A good paragraph will begin with an effective opening sentence, sometimes called a topic sentence or signposting sentence. This sentence introduces the paragraph topic and briefly explains its significance to the question and your contention. Never refer to yourself personally, using phrases like âI thinkâ¦â or âIt is my contentionâ¦â. Good history essays should adopt the perspective of an informed and objective third party. They should sound rational and factual â" not like an individual expressing their opinion. Read your essay aloud, either to yourself or another person. Take out all conjunctions (arenât, donât, couldnât, etc.). This will make your paper longer and is more appropriate for academic writing. Your conclusion should always begin by restating your thesis statement. This is a problem in all essays but particularly in history essays. Generalisation occurs when you form general conclusions from one or more examples. In history, it most commonly occurs when students study a particular group then assume their experiences applied to a much larger group. For example, âall the peasants were outragedâ, âwomen rallied to oppose conscriptionâ or âGermans supported the Nazi Partyâ. History and human society are never this clear cut or simple.

Engineering ceramics (Research Paper Sample) Content: Engineering Ceramics First Name Last Name Course Name Instructorà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢s name Date Engineering Ceramics Ceramics are defined as inorganic but non-metallic materials that are of great value and importance to our lifestyle. These materials can either be metallic or non-metal compounds that have been suppressed to very high temperatures. The extreme temperatures make the ceramic possesses their desirable qualities of being hard, brittle and resistance to corrosion. Material engineers are people who design the different types of Ceramic. They also determine the processes in which these products can be made, and recommend the suitability of different types of ceramic in daily lives. Industrial manufacture of Ceramics is made by taking mixtures of clay, earthly materials, additives, and water and molding them into a shape that you desire or specified. The mold is then put inside a kiln and subject to very high temperatures. Once complete, the ceramic can be covered with decorative, paint, waterproofing elements as per the specification of the material engineer/manufacturer.[. Generally, engineering ceramics are classified into the following; Metallic oxides: These include oxides like alumina, zirconium, and beryllium oxides. These materials contain metallic atoms as their primary elements. They have the following properties, Low dielectric loss, good toughness and high strength, high thermal conductivity at medium temperatures. They also resist to wear and tear. Glass-Ceramics; the glass ceramic are easier to work on and can be machined with steel tools. They permit light to pass through them and hence transparent, have different thermal conductivity depending on composition type. Hurt Locker and Ptsd - 1903 Words
The Hurt Locker and PTSD Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is an anxiety disorder that runs through our military system and is often vastly overlooked. It is a little-known mental health problem that is poorly understood. It can be traced back to the times of the Civil War and has been given names like shell-shocked syndrome, PTSD, soldiers heart, and combat fatigue. A soldier who has experienced combat or military exposure of any level of severity can be susceptible to this anxiety disorder and its symptoms. The Hollywood film The Hurt Locker, directed by Kathryn Bigelow, depicts the American soldierââ¬â¢s battles with PTSD and shows how drastic its effects can be. Another main character from The Hurt Locker who shows a connection with this political discourse is Sergeant William James. In this article the personality traits of managers using different leadership styles are explained in terms of, and add to, the description of these styles. Members of a management team were assessed in terms of their preferred leadership styles and two groups were identified. Some of the managers relied on both transformational behaviors and active transactional behaviors with an absence of behaviors associated with passive styles. Ethnographic Film Essay Example For Students
Ethnographic Film Essay In making Ethnographic Film Essay ethnographers will inevitably be confronted with conflicting values and will be forced to choose to uphold some while neglecting others. The situation is complicated further when the films are intended for television screening and the audience is the general public; the ethnographic filmmaker then faces the task of producing something that is simultaneously ethnographically competent, entertaining, accessible to general audiences and ethical. Here I will examine two ethnographic made-for-TV programs: Masai Women and Kayapo Out of the Forest. In each of these programs the filmmakers were confronted with ethical decisions requiring them to uphold one value while excluding another. It is my intent to show that in ethnographic film making there can be no set formula for which filmmakers can prioritize ethnographic values and human ethics; each decision to uphold one value over another must be made in regard to the specific social and political context in which it is being made. Masai Womens filmmakers were confronted with two conflicting values when treating several aspects of Masai culture. On one hand the film was meant to be an ethnographic documentary and as such had its own set of ethnographic goals. These include portraying whole people and being as objective as possible. On the other hand, the filmmakers had to be cognizant of their audience, the general (British) public. Knowing that their audience was the general public had both advantages and disadvantages: while it gave them a unique opportunity to reach a wide range of people it also created a certain responsibility, since the film wasnt being shown in the context of any anthropological discourse on the subject. This isnt to say the filmmakers were limited because their audience were the ignorant masses but rather that they were dealing with a diverse audience. The film, to be successful, could assume neither that the viewers were educated nor uneducated; a successful television program appeals to many sensibilities. While depicting Masai culture these values came into conflict in treating several subjects. First and most striking was the subject of female circumcision: the topic was completely glazed over. In narrating the topic Melissa Llewelyn-Davies describes female circumcision as a joyous occasion, a rite of passage for Masai women, the equivalent to a white wedding in British society. The filmmakers reasoning behind this decision to not dwell on the subject was essentially a decision to adhere to one of the values described above, to be responsible and respectful in portraying a culture to open audiences; ethnographic filmmakers certainly do not want to create disdain for a culture based on practices that may seem adverse to western society. In adhering to one value however they were forced to abandon another, ethnographic completeness. In a film about Masai women, a female-centered film about the lives of women, the issue of female circumcision seems to me to be very pertinent and an important topic to explore. For instance, the girls screams are edited out, clearly in violation of ethnographic principle. Lleweyn-Davies also says that the practice is the female equivalent to male circumcision. It most certainly is not. If practiced on men female circumcision would amount to one-half to three quarters removal of the penis. Here, the point is that the issue is glazed over and made benign for the purpose of not offending the average western viewer. One topic more difficult to avoid in a discussion of Masai womens experience is the practice of polygyny. Here, the same conflicting values were confronted as are discussed above: on one hand the filmmaker wants to produce a film that is ethnographically whole in its description of cultural institutions, yet on the other hand the filmmaker must keep in mind the composition of the audience. In this instance Melissa Llewelyn-Davies chose to explore the topic at length in favor of the former value. She does however explore the topic with great sensitivity, choosing to ask the subjects how they feel about the practice themselves, rather than narrating . .udfca0687371aa0e129afed498b5c5aed , .udfca0687371aa0e129afed498b5c5aed .postImageUrl , .udfca0687371aa0e129afed498b5c5aed .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .udfca0687371aa0e129afed498b5c5aed , .udfca0687371aa0e129afed498b5c5aed:hover , .udfca0687371aa0e129afed498b5c5aed:visited , .udfca0687371aa0e129afed498b5c5aed:active { border:0!important; } .udfca0687371aa0e129afed498b5c5aed .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .udfca0687371aa0e129afed498b5c5aed { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .udfca0687371aa0e129afed498b5c5aed:active , .udfca0687371aa0e129afed498b5c5aed:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .udfca0687371aa0e129afed498b5c5aed .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .udfca0687371aa0e129afed498b5c5aed .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .udfca0687371aa0e129afed498b5c5aed .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .udfca0687371aa0e129afed498b5c5aed .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .udfca0687371aa0e129afed498b5c5aed:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .udfca0687371aa0e129afed498b5c5aed .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .udfca0687371aa0e129afed498b5c5aed .udfca0687371aa0e129afed498b5c5aed-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .udfca0687371aa0e129afed498b5c5aed:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Dissabiliteis Essay In making Kayapo: Out of the Forest, Terrence Turner faced a somewhat different dilemma, yet it was a dilemma of conflicting values nevertheless. The Gold Fish And The Fisherman Essays - Go, Ko Fight, Fishing
The Gold Fish And The Fisherman Once upon a time there was an old man named `Ko'. Ko was a fifty-year old fisherman. He liked children very much but unfortunately he and his wife Jean did not have any of their own. Sometimes he felt quite lonely at home. Ko and Jean lived close to the harbour. One thing that Ko did not like about Jean was her temper. Very often she yelled at him for no reason at all. One morning while Ko was still sleeping Jean yelled at him, "Wake up! Its very late now. You should go fishing. Every day you go fishing and do not become bored. Why don't you build a house in the middle of the ocean?" said Jean said with much criticism. Ko did not reply. "Hey! do you hear me?" asked Jean. "Yes dear," Ko replied. "Then why didn't you answer me? Some day you're going to drive me crazy", said Jean. "I was waiting for you to finish talking. Don't be so angry. I'm leaving right now", said Ko. Ko quickly got dressed and left for the harbour. On his way to the harbour he met his good friend `Sun'. As they were walking down the trail to their fishing boats they started a conversation. "Hey, today's weather is very good eh? I bet there will be a lot of fish," said Sun. "It's hard to say nowadays. During this season we can't tell if there will be any fish," replied Ko. "Yes, I agree. During the last few days it appeared as though the fish were all hiding. You're lucky that you only have a wife to feed while I have a whole family to take care of. Sometimes my whole family had to starve if there was no fish.", said Sun. "Don't say that. To me I think we're all the same. As a matter of fact I think you are more fortunate than I.", said Ko. "Why? " asked Sun. "At least you have grand children and family members. In fact you don't even have to go fishing anymore," said Ko. "No way! Fishing is my hobby. I've been fishing for many years. If I stop fishing suddenly I just don't feel comfortable," said Sun. "Isn't that the truth? Just look at the ocean. It's beautiful isn't it?" said Ko. "It sure is" answered Sun. Ko and Sun had arrived at their boat. They wish each other good luck. Then they got on to there boats. The day passed very quickly and soon it was sunset. Ko lifted his last net to see if he had caught anymore fish. Natural Blends Inc Essays
Natural Blends Inc Essays Natural Blends Inc Essay Natural Blends Inc Essay NATURAL BLENDS Inc Here we have 3 processes to consider, the Extraction, Filtration and Concentration. Extraction has a maximum capacity of 20,000 lbs/hr Filtration has a maximum capacity of 20,000 lbs/hr Concentration has a maximum capacity of 18,000 lbs/hr For Extraction we have a setup time of 20 minutes. For Filtration we have a setup time of 30 minutes after 90 minutes of filtration. For Concentration there is no setup time loss. The processes are simultaneous in nature, and there is no buffer in between. So, if there is a shutdown of a single process, the entire system shuts down. Now, if we do consider a 2 hour time slot, then there will be effectively production for 1 and ? hours due to filtration setup time: For Extraction: The maximum production is 30,000 lbs. For Filtration: The maximum production is 30,000 lbs. For Concentration: The maximum production is 27,000 lbs. So the bottle neck operation is the Concentration process and the production rate will be 13,500 lbs/hour. A cycle is completed in 2hrs. PART A Assumption: We are considering that since oranges are of same type the bin will be changed after 3 and ? rs of production. The bin will be changed when the Filtration process will be stopped to change filter. Hence, saving valuable time. 1a. Amount of orange production possible in 1 day (8 Hrs) =13500*8=108000 lbs There is a loss of utilization time of 30 mins (due to filtration process) per 2 hours of the whole system. 1b. The idle time for the extraction process in a day would be = (1/2)*4= 2 hours We see that there is a bottle neck condition in th e Concentration process, so we will install a storage capacity in between Filtration and Concentration. a. We will add storage tank between step 3 and step 4. The capacity of tank will be 3000 lbs. 2b. If we add storage tank between step 2 and step 3, then The maximum production of Extraction process is 20,000lbs/hr. The maximum production of Filtration is also 20,000lbs/hr. But Filtration works for only 90 min. So effective production rate is =20,000*1. 5 =30,000lbs for 2 hrs i. e. 15,000/hr considering a cycle of 2 hrs the maximum production of Extraction is 40,000 lbs and that of Filtration is 30,000. Thus a tank of capacity 5,000lbs can be added between them. But adding tank between Extraction and Filtration will not increase the daily production. When a storage tank is added between Filtration and Concentration, Now for 2 hours slot, we see that there is a processing deficit of 3000(30,000-27,000) lbs. So we install storage of capacity 3000lbs. This will increase the daily production. Daily production= 30,0004= 120,000 lbs Thus there is increase of 12,000lbs/day after adding a storage tank. 3a. Additional fixtures of $20,000 for Filtration process and $10,000 for Extraction should be done to maximize the output. 3b. As discussed in question 2a and 2b the capacity of storage tank, which can be added between Filtration and Concentration should be 3,000lbs. The cost of construction of tank is given as $30/lbs. Hence the total cost for construction of storage tank will be 30 x 3000= $90,000, and the production will increase to 120,000 lbs/day. When additional fixtures are added in Filtration and Extraction process the setup time will reduce by 50% i. . the setup time for Extraction will be 10 min and that for Filtration will be 15 min. So our 2 hour cycle will be reduced to 1 hr 45min cycle. So an additional 1 hr will be available for production. Now number cycle per day will increase to= 8/1. 75= 4. 57 cycles per day. The production in one cycle will be same i. e. 27,000lbs. Hence the daily production will increase to 27,000 x 4. 57= 123,390 lbs The cost of improvement will be $20,000 for Filtration and $10,000 for extraction. Hence total cost will be $30,000. PART B Assumption: Since the amount of different sizes of oranges processed should be equal in a week and each size should be processed at least once per day, we can consider the following schedule; DAY0-2hrs2-4 hrs4-6 hrs6-8 hrs 1BAAC 2C BBA 3A CCB 4BCCA 5CBBA 6ACCB Where A, B and C represents large, medium and small oranges respectively, such that A=B=C 4a. The setup change in Extraction will happen for three times. 4b. As seen in the above schedule the setup is changed for 3 times. 4c. The quantity of oranges of particular size which will be processed before switching to other size will be 54,000 pounds. The maximum time same size of oranges will be processed is 4 hrs. The production for 2hr cycle is 27,000lbs, hence the maximum quantity is 54,000lbs. 4d. The total amount of juice concentrate processed is 108,000 lbs. as the production for 1 cycle of 2 hrs is 27,000lbs and there are 4 such cycles hence total production will be 108,000 lbs Submitted by:- Joydeep Mukherjee Rejo Matthew Tushar Deshmukh Vinay Panwar

Nursing and the Media Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
Nursing and the Media - Essay Example The media can either positively or negatively influence the public image of nursing depending on the stories, news, or advertisements on nursing broadcasted to the public. The media can positively impact on the public image of nursing through broadcasting shows/films of nurses working to save victims of natural disasters like earthquakes and hurricanes and news stories relating to nurses importance to a safer public positively affected nursing and aided in augmenting respect for nurses (Donelan et al., 2008). However, news. Films, or advertisements on nurseââ¬â¢s strikes and nurses not taking their duty well in terms of caring for the patients and participating in unethical behavior endangering the lives of the patient's results in a negative public image of nurses. News relating to nurse shortage and the general outlook on nursing as a career does not positively or negatively impact on the public image of nurses (Donelan et al., 2008). Avenues of educating the general public include nurses writing articles in newspapers aimed at informing the public regarding nursing roles and scope and changing health care system. Other avenues include posting and circulation of nursing accomplishments, making announcements in dailies, nurses speaking to civic and community groups on nursing roles and responsibilities. Other avenues are posting online in blogs and on social media sites and contacting media outlets and program developers on the need to portray nursing in a positive manner and in the true light of nursing roles and scope.

The Problem of Induction by David Hume Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words
The Problem of Induction by David Hume - Essay Example I however, do not believe this response is an argument, and the problem of Induction maintains itââ¬â¢s force as a theoretically worry to serious philosophers. Furthermore Hume offers a solution to theoretical skepticism by distinguishing between the type of skepticism inquired about by philosophers, and the skepticism you should engage in in everyday life. In other words, Hume admits this problem is theoretically unanswerable, but practically speaking, is unlivable. By making this distinction, I believe that Hume makes the skeptical problem of induction less worrisome, while preserving its theoretical significance. Before going into any solutions Hume provides, we should first explain the basics of Humeââ¬â¢s argument from induction. The conclusion of Humeââ¬â¢s argument about the limitations of inductive reasoning, is that we have no basis to conclude that the future will resemble the past. The idea of cause and effect is not grounded in experience, because we cannot see c ause and effect. For example, Hume points out that we cannot conclude that fire causes burns simply from putting our hand in the fire and noticing that it burns. We only are brought to believe this through repeated attempts, and a hypothesis that we should not try it in the future. Nor are our conclusions from experience based upon human understanding or reason, because that would rely on the false implicit assumption that nature always continues uniformly. That is, we cannot legitimately conclude that things in the past will continue to follow that path out of necessity. Hume comes to these conclusions through a complex explanation about how humans come to understand things through experience. A beginning point in Humeââ¬â¢s skepticism about empirical and inductive reasoning, is that forming any argument about experience relies on the assumption that the future will resemble the past. He states, ââ¬Å"In reality, all arguments from experience are founded on the similarity which we discover among natural objects, and by which we are induced to expect effects similar to those which we have found to follow from such objects (Hume, 27). In other words, arguments from experience require that we assume what we have seen in the past will happen similarly in the future. However, this premise could never be proved deductively, because that would require believing any event is absolutely necessary, but it is always possible for things to happen otherwise. It also cannot be proved causally, because that would beg the question. In other words, such an argument would assume the existence of causality, which cannot be proved, because it is the very thing in question. Hume further points out that what we immediately learn from the senses does not always lead us to discover the true underlying properties of nature. For example, simply by observing and tasting bread, we do not arrive at the conclusion that bread nourishes. The only way we know bread nourishes, is by consu ming it, and realizing that effect: Should it be said that, from a number of uniform experiments, we infer a connexion between the sensible qualities and the secret pow- ers; this, I must confess, seems the same difficulty, couched in different terms. The question still recurs, on what process of argument this infer- ence is founded?...It is

Censorship - Banning Books :: Argumentative Persuasive Essays
Literature has long been an important part of human life. We express our feelings with ink and paper; we spill out our souls on dried wood pulp. Writing has been form of release and enjoyment since the beginning of written language. You can tell a story, make yourself a hero. You can live out all your fantasies. You can explore all of your thoughts, feelings, and emotions, and share them with the outside world. But just because you can write, don't think you are uninhibited! It doesn't matter who you are. If you write a book, paper, or other work of choice, somebody is going to contest you. Some one isn't going to like what you have to say, and they will try to cause a stir. Don't try to deal with issues of racism, sexism, murder, sexuality, etc. That will only get you banned, barred, or burned. Controversy is a trigger for argument, so if you write about something controversial, people will have something to say about it. It doesn't matter whom the book was written for, about, or by. For example, you can't write about racism in America. We don't have any of THAT, do we!? I remember well my ex-boyfriend reading Of Mice and Men. It was required reading for his Senior English class. However, in the 1990's, this book was challenged and banned in many schools across the country. The book deals with a mentally challenged man who kills some one, and, in the end, is killed himself by his "best friend." And don't think the language was overlooked! All kids love the "Harry Potter" series. But they don't know that by reading it they are "indulging in sinful and Godless acts" or that these books are putting them on the fastest train to Hell. I own A Clockwork Orange, Lord of the Flies, To Kill a Mockingbird, Twelfth Night, and Webster's Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary, all of which have been or are banned. What's going on here? The most frequently challenged and/or banned books in 2001 were: ? The Harry Potter series, by J.K. Rowling, for its focus on wizardry and magic. ? Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, for using offensive language and being unsuited to age group. Rape by Fraud, Forcible Rape, Sexual Assault, Child Molestation Free Essay Example, 1750 words
In a study conducted by Quinsey and Upfold (1985) involving 72 rape offenders, the average age of these offenders was 24 years old. The relationship between age and offence is seldom taken into consideration in the literature on rape beyond its descriptive qualities in the methodology. It was suggested that hormonal factors existing in young men were linked with the sexual offence (Marshall and Barabee, 1984). Gender of OffendersAccording to researchers (e. g. Lievore, 2003; Avakame, 1999), between 97% and 99% of alleged sex offenders are male. While physiologically and legally females are also capable of committing rape, for example, by digitally or orally penetrating victims (both male and female), such instances seldom reach the criminal justice system (Matthews et al 1991). Class of OffendersAccording to Holmes (1991), overwhelmingly, convicted rape offenders are from lower socio-economic backgrounds. Usually, they have the inconsistent employment history in unskilled works, hav e high academic failure rates, and come from unstable backgrounds (Bard et al, 1987). The underrepresentation of males from upper and middle-class backgrounds may indicate a higher involvement in marital and date rapes, which have lower conviction and reporting rates (Vogelman, 1990).
